John Dougery

Managing Director
John has been an institutional venture investor since 1997 following a successful decade long industry operating career. He and Kanwal have known each other since the 1980s, and were co-investors in a number of companies over the 10 years prior to founding Inventus.
Industry Executive - John began his career building high-growth technology businesses for ten years prior to venture. He initially led channel marketing for IBM, Microsoft, and Intel product lines during the early growth years of the personal computer industry. He then held business management and product line marketing roles in the high-performance workstation industry, initially with Sun Microsystems, and then for the first seven years of the 1990’s building Silicon Graphics' start-up desktop workstation business into a multi-billion dollar product line. John applies his successful operating career to the practice of mentoring and backing entrepreneurs.
Venture Investor - Since 1997, John has been responsible for venture investments in 17 companies resulting in 7 liquidity events including two IPOs to date - most notably Kaboodle, Placeware, IC Works, Monolithic Power Systems, RedEnvelope, and Cygnal Integrated Products. John began his venture career with Scale Venture Partners where John was one of the founding Managing Directors raising two funds totaling $600 million. At Inventus, John is a Board Director at CreditSesame, Vivu, Dhingana, and Sokrati.

Education

John earned a BA from U.C. Berkeley and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at U.C. Berkeley. He has financed numerous Indo-Americans and multi-national Indo-US companies and has been a Charter Member of TiE where he has mentored young Indian entrepreneurs.
